Alameda Writers Group, Blues Music Awards,
The 2006 Black Film and Media Conference opens in Philadelphia on May 4-7. The BFMC will offer a series of film screenings, workshops, expert panels, along with exposition, education/career fair, and networking events for its attendees. Alameda Writers Group meets this month on May 6 in Glendale, presenting Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Vorus, creators and executive producers of "Sleeper Cell" to discuss writing and producing for television. At the "Good In A Room Workshop" the focus will be for writers, producers and directors on how to communicate ideas quickly and effectively in high-pressure situations. The two-day session opening May 6 is in Culver City. The British Academy of Film and Television holds its TV Awards May 7 in Grosvenor Square, London, presenting BAFTA masks to its winners. The 27th Blues Music Awards (formerly the Handy Blues Awards) celebrate the best in blues recordings and performances from last year when it gathers for the May 11 celebration in the Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis. For Second Annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert benefiting the fund, the Recording Academy honors co-founder of Metallica James Hetfield and concert promoter and manager Bill Silva, in Hollywood on May 12. "Colour Me Bad: Third Coast Hip Hop" and "black girls face: r. kelly" are student documentary film presentations on May 12 under the auspices of the New School Media Studies program in New York. Q&A and refreshments follow the screenings. The Indie Impact Seminar on May 13 is a day-long series of panels and workshops focused on independent artists and labels, and with a music showcase featuring indie rock and urban artists in Downtown Memphis. The Village Voice newspaper holds its 51st Annual Village Voice Obie Awards in New York on May 15. A ceremony for the BMI Pop Awards happens May 16 in Beverly Hills. Actress, dancer, choreographer Zina Bethune will be honored as the first recipient of The USA TODAY Hollywood Hero Award on May 17 in Beverly Hills. Vincent Cassel will be the Master of Ceremonies of the forthcoming Festival de Cannes. He will launch the 59th edition on May 17 running till May 28, in Cannes. ASCAP and MySpace.com have teamed up to present showcases across the country while providing local artists with an opportunity to perform at high-profile music showcases in their hometowns, and enabling them to share this music globally through profile pages. Another showcase takes place May 18 at 12th & Porter (name of the venue) in Nashville. At the 16th Annual Cologne, Germany Conference and Screenings, numerous receptions and evening events enhance a week of already interesting programs, and form the social highlight of the TV and film festival that runs from May 18-24. The Cable Center and University of Denver host conference on the key issues surrounding intellectual property rights in "Inaugural Intellectual Property and Digital Media Summit" running May 22-23 in Denver. The 41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be hosted by Reba McEntire and will be broadcast live from Las Vegas over the CBS network on May 23. On May 25 in Las Vegas, VH1 debuts the first ever show to pay homage to the legends who influenced the sound of hard rock with the first annual "VH1 Rock Honors," at which this year’s celebration will honor the music and influence of KISS, Queen, Def Leppard and Judas Priest.

MIPTV, which opens in Cannes April 3 to 7, is a trade event for professionals from the audiovisual industry and features another industry event, MILIA. The "Writers Bloc Presents..." series features political satirist Mort Sahl in conversation with "Curb Your Enthusiasm" director Bob Weide, for its April 3 event happening in Beverly Hills. This year the 2006 Mobile Entertainment Summit takes place across the street from the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas on April 4, hosting a deal-making environment between content owners and distributors surveying the hottest trends for mobile content and applications. The Mobile Entertainment Party happens April 6 at venue The Beach. For the 37th Annual Gospel Music Association Music Awards in Nashville, ticket holders will be invited to a special artist meet-and-greet the week of the awards show on April 5. BMI Latin Music Awards, taking place in New York on April 7, is a black-tie, invitation-only awards dinner and ceremony honoring songwriters, composers and music publishers. The 3-day Scriptwriters Showcase starting April 7 in Universal City, is a conference and marketplace hosted by Final Draft and scr(i)pt magazine. Even if you're not an A list invitee to the Oscar's this year you might get closer to the action than you think by attending any one of several Oscar Viewing Parties happening somewhere in your area. The 78th Annual Academy Awards takes place Sunday, March 5, at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It will be carried live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 pm PST, preceded by a one-hour red carpet arrivals show. And there are options to this show that seemingly attempt to move in synch with the Hollywood affair.
The Norby Walters' 16th Annual Night of 100 Stars Oscar Gala in Beverly Hills is a formal sit-down dinner viewing party mostly comprised of past Oscar winners and nominees who will pay tribute to their favorite award ceremony. At the Statuesque: Oscar Viewing Party, DIVA Magazine hosts reception and viewing party to benefit The Jeff Griffith Youth Center for LGBT youths. Women in Film present a Palm Springs Academy Awards Night Gala Benefit with a six- course dinner served during the Oscar Awards. APA Films's Oscar Party 2006 in Washington, D.C., places an emphasis on Asian Pacific American celebrities in film, and offers a casual environment to meet, mingle, and play Asian Oscar Trivia. Hawaii International Film Festival's Oscar Night® America Party in Honolulu, is a combined HIFF fundraiser and official Oscar Night® America Party, sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Breckenridge Festival of Film Rolls Out the Red Carpet for This Year's Oscars, happening in Breckenridge, allows attendees to walk a red carpet in their best dress and then watch their favorite stars on several big screen TVs while sampling food and wine of Breckenridge's finest restaurants. "Creative red-carpet attire suggested, black tie optional" for the 2006 Oscar Night America Event in St. Louis, with sparkling wine, hors d'oeuvres, and official launch of Lester Pope’s book "Lights ... Outside of Oscar related events, the Cinequest Film Festival, displaying maverick uses of film and television, continues its run through March 12 in San Jose. For Copyright Awareness Week, presented by the Copyright Society of the USA, and co-sponsored by BMI in New York City, the goal of this national event is to teach students the basic concepts of copyright and to encourage an understanding and respect for the rights of creative people. A "Rock the Quad Showcase" in London on March 8, sponsored by BMI and Gibson, featuring Titan System, Dollface, Hansom Pilot and Lunar Mile, is an ongoing series of musical showcases. A BMI Artist Workshop On Deal Making features panelists in a Q&A session, happening in Nashville, March 9. The International Recording Media Association 36th Annual Recording Media Forum meets March 9-11 in Palm Springs to strategize on how to make rational predictions on product and delivery paths, to build practical business models. NABOB's 22nd Annual Communication Awards Dinner annually honors prestigious names in entertainment, communications and public service and this year includes a feature performance by Aretha Franklin at a March 10 event in Washington, D.C. SXSW 2006, the regarded film, music and interactive marketing conference and festival, now includes the first annual ScreenBurn Beta Festival enables consumers and game developers to preview the future of this industry, running March 10-19 in Austin.
The 49th Annual New York Emmy® Awards will be presented at a special black tie gala on March 12 in New York's Times Square district. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in partnership with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, celebrates this indigenous American music with performances by country music artists, March 20 to April 9 in Washington, D.C. Miami Winter Music Conference, regarded as the networking event in the dance music industry, runs March 24-28 in Miami Beach.

The 48th Annual Grammy Awards, with Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West among performers, will be presented February 8 in Los Angeles as well as via CBS broadcast. Media Summit New York is an international conference for media, entertainment and technology leaders covering the gamut, taking place February 8 & 9 in New York City. The Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation honors Travis Reid, president and CEO of Loews Cineplex Entertainment, for its Pioneer Of The Year Dinner taking on February 9 in Los Angeles. The ASCAP Foundation Country Songwriters Workshop occurs every spring for six consecutive weekly evening sessions. BHERC African American Film Marketplace and Short Film Showcase, an annual event presenting African American filmmakers showcasing and networking opportunities, is held this year in Los Angeles, November 12 to 13. The businesss of Hip-Hop filmmaking and the evolution of Hip-Hop in the film industry will be captured at H2O IFF - Hip-Hop Odyssey International Film Festival - being held November 13-19 at various venues within New York City boroughs, and opening with a VIP gala at Brooklyn's BAM. The Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film and TV Music Conference is a two-day seminar on the role of music in film and television with sessions and panels on music for film, TV, Internet, gaming, commercials and other industry related topics, for two day, November 15-16 in Beverly Hills. For the 33rd International Emmy Awards, Oprah Winfrey to receive Special International Emmy Founders Award from Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, when the awards take place November 21 in New York City. Animation Festival "Animadrid", opening November 25 in Madrid, was organized with the purpose of fostering the film and audiovisual arts by promoting independent animation productions and providing an assembly point for artists and audiences in the international community.
